Red lipsticks are staples in my vanity. When I am not in the mood to doll up for some evening events I go for red lipsticks. A suitable red lipstick holds the power to transform minimal makeup to extraordinary. That is the reason most of the shopping affairs of mine involve a few minute’s escape to hover over the lipstick counters of makeup stores. Matte lipsticks are reigning girl-minds currently; me being no exception from this ongoing rave. This time I wanted to try something from Maybelline. I have used more than 10 Baby Lips lip balms from them but surprisingly never tried any of their lipsticks! So, this time I was quite determined to go for this brand only. I wanted a red lipstick and there was The Big Apple Red Collection of Maybelline in the store. Naturally my one-track mind zeroed upon 211 Cosmopolitan Red. Here is what I felt about this creamy matte lipstick.

My Take on Maybelline Color Show Creamy Matte Lipstick in 211 Cosmopolitan Red:
Packaging: This lipstick comes in a matte-black bullet packaging with a colour-coded translucent plastic strip in the middle of the bullet. The shade name is mentioned on one side on the bullet along with the manufacturing date. The lipstick inside has twist-withdraw mechanism which is there in every such lipstick packaging. The packaging is practical, sturdy and travel-friendly.
Shade-211 Cosmopolitan Red: The shade 211 Cosmopolitan Red can be categorized into blue toned red genre. The shade is neither too light nor vampy dark. It’s more of a classic red shade that fares well to everyone irrespective of complexion or undertone. No doubt, the shade is quite bold; it gives a brightening effect to my face.
Pigmentation: The colour-payoff of this lipstick is really good. It takes only one swipe to show the true colour for my medium pigmented lips. If I give one more swipe the colour gets intense. It gives full coverage to my mom’s heavily pigmented lips within 2 swipes.
Texture: The texture of this lip colour is smooth, light-weight and creamy. Within 2 minutes it gets mattified. After a while, the matte effect intensifies to some extent. Because of its creamy-matte formula, the does not give that extremely drying feel to the lips. Thankfully, it does not settle into the creases of my lips.
Fragrance: This lipstick has subtle berry fragrance to it. Berry is my favourite fragrance so I am liking it a lot!
Staying Power: This lipstick stays intact for 4-5 hours without meals or drinks in these hot and humid summer months. That means it is going to last more in colder months. It is not completely transfer-proof though the tendency to transfer is lower than Lakme’s Enrich Matte lipsticks from the same price range. I like the fact that, this lipstick fades evenly leaving behind a reddish tint which gives an illusion of naturally rosy lips. I have very sweaty upper and lower lip area so I experience colour bleeding with almost all dark colour lipsticks when the humidity is high. This lipstick was not an exception but, the bleeding was lesser than my Lakme, Elle 18 or Street Wear lipsticks.

- Cool toned red shade; flatters every skin tone
- Intense colour-payoff
- Non-drying texture; nice berry smell
- Feels light on the lips
- Colour fades evenly and does not settle into fine lines of the lips
- Decently priced
Cons:
- Slight colour-bleeding in extreme humidity
- Not completely transfer-proof

Recommendation: I would recommend the Maybelline Big Apple Red Creamy Matte lipstick in Cosmopolitan Red to anyone who wants a budget-friendly blue toned red non-drying matte lipstick with remarkable pigmentation and staying power.
