My take on Lakme 9to5 Matte Lipsticks:
Packaging: These lipsticks come in a beautiful rose gold case which looks classy. These are not color coded but have the shade name encoded on the bottom of the bullet. Though the bullet does not have a click lock kind of closing which I personally prefer in lipsticks, the cap shuts tightly so there is no hassle in taking it for travel. The entire lipstick itself comes in a rose gold cardboard box.
Shade: Red Chaos is the perfect MLBB shade for fair to medium skin tones. It is a peachy nude with no shimmer or frost and looks totally matte. I love this kind of shades. Whereas Scarlet Drill falls under the same family of Red Chaos. It is a rusty peach that is slightly deeper than Red Chaos. On my hand swatches both the shades look almost similar, but on my lips, I could see that Scarlet Drill is darker and gives more fuller coverage.
Texture: These lipsticks have a creamy formula that sets into a true powdery matte finish. Without prepping the lips, these lipsticks tend to settle into my lip lines and it is more obvious in the case of the shade Red Chaos. Otherwise with proper prepping, these lipsticks goes on smoothly without any tugging and feels light and comfortable on the lips.
Pigmentation & Staying Power : Both the shades are buildable and require 2 to 3 swipes to give opaque coverage. It does not stay for 9 to 5 as they claim and have an average lasting power of 3 to 4 hours. Both the shades do not transfer much and does not tend to bleed outside the lip line. These are quite easy to remove with coconut or almond oil and do not leave a stain behind.
Pros:
- Good packaging, bullet closes properly.
- Wide range of colors.
- Easily available everywhere.
- Buildable coverage.
- True matte finish.
- Does leave a stain behind.
- Easy to remove.
Cons:
- Average staying power.
- Accentuates lip lines.
Rating: 4/5
Recommendation: Yes. Though they don’t have very high features, I loved them because being matte, these lipsticks are very comfortable and lightweight on the lips.

I love their packaging. It was an honest review ☺
I too love them because of their light nature on lips. Glad to see such a detailed review.
I loved both the shades
Great post 🙂
Such a detailed review.. Personally not a big matte fan but Lakme is my goto brand when I’m in confusion 🙂
Both shades are almost same … But loved them ??
Nice and honest review. I think their 9-5 claims is just a marketing gimmick…

You know safi, I have these two shades from 9-5 range and I adore them.
When it comes to listick, it’s matte for me. Elegant and yet subtle. Lakme is one of the best for years.
Excellent review and Lovely shades 🙂
both the colours look so similar….such an everyday easy to wear colours….
Those are really lovely shades 🙂
Loved your review.
Thank you 🙂
Thank you 🙂
I love them too 🙂
Me too 🙂
Thanks 🙂
Me as well. I prefer glossy lips rather than matte. But these are nice to sport natural looking lips.
Yes they look similar but scarlet drill is tad bit deeper. I’ve seen this range has a lot of closely related shades, so picking one can be difficult.
Yes I agree. They don’t stay that long.
Wow, that’s great Papri. Which one do you like the most?
Thanks Ghazala 🙂
I agree 🙂
Yes these are great for everyday wear.
Eyeing scarlet drill for the longest time now! Initially, was eyeing red chaos but when swatched at the counter, it didn’t suit my deeper complexion.

Is Scarlet Drill off the market now? I have been trying to find it everywhere.
As far as I know, this particular shade has been discontinued, after the 9 to 5 range was revamped.
