My dark lipstick addiction doesn’t look like its going to end soon and this time it took me to one of the very famous lipstick editions launched by L’Oreal Paris which is Pure Reds Color Riche Collection Star lipsticks. This lipstick edition has vibrant shades with reds mixed in it, that are worn by L’Oreal Paris’s Global brand ambassadors. The collection has become very famous with vibrant red based hues for various skin-tones. I wanted a purple based red, which should not be maroon or burgundy or plum, and I came across this shade, Pure Garnet. Let see how L’Oreal Paris Collection Star Pure Garnet Lipstick worked out for me.

My take on L’Oreal Paris Collection Star Pure Garnet Lipstick:
Packaging: The lipstick bullet comes in a bold black metallic body. The bullet body is in gold colour and the lipstick cap has the name and signature of Sonam Kapoor embossed on it in gold. The lipsticks are colour coded in the lower part of the bullet and it has sticker of shade name at the bottom.
Fragrance: L’Oreal Paris Collection Star Pure Garnet Lipstick has a mild floral fragrance which does not linger, so this did not bother me.
Texture: On initial application, the lipstick glides smoothly and looks creamy, but it settles to a beautiful matte finish. If you have chapped lips this colour may accentuate them even more because of its darker shade and matte finish. It may smudge across the edges of your lips, so a liner is recommended. You can use a nude or transparent lipliner with this colour because the colour’s pigmentation will hide the colour of your liner. Intense colours usually make lips drier as compared to lighter shades, and this holds true for Pure Garnet. You will have to exfoliate your lips nicely and apply a balm thoroughly otherwise this lipstick may feel uncomfortable after 3-4 hours.
Finish: This lipstick gives a beautiful matte finish and because of the intense colour, lips look very bold and pretty. Colour pay-off is off the chart and this shade does impart intense colour to lips. One swipe is enough to hide even the most pigmented lips..yeah guys it is that good. Bold colours look great if applied accurately so you will get great results with a lip-brush.
Staying Power: The L’Oreal Paris Collection Star Pure Garnet Lipstick will not budge till 4-5 hours after which you may need to re-apply. If you are having a light meal, you don’t need to worry about eating it out, but with cocktails or heavy meals do check after you finish your food. The lipstick does not leave behind an intense stain which is surprising because the shade is extremely dark. The stain left behind is very non-uniform and it may settle in lip-cracks as well. To surmise, staying power is great but after the lipstick reaches its limit things may go crazy so its better that you act before the time limit.
- Beautiful colour
- Intense pigmentation
- Smooth Application
- You don’t require multiple swipes
- Beautiful matte finish
- Feathering tendency
- Uneven stain.
- May dry out your lips
- You may need a lip brush
- Not budget friendly
Ratings: 3.5/5 (because the shade is pretty, and application is pretty smooth)
Would I recommend? The Pure Reds collection is great, and shades are extremely pretty, but the prices are not exactly low, so I will suggest that to go to outlets and try them out before buying. This is especially true if you are after a dark shade. The shade is gorgeous and worth lusting for, but it does transfer and tugs at your lips after a while. The colour was exactly what I had in my mind but I may wear it for 3-4 hour only because it did dry out my lips eventually.
