Klairs is a widely popular brand when it comes to Korean Skincare. I have heard rave reviews about the Brand. So I wanted to get my hands on their products. It’s only then I stumbled upon a sampler kit on BeautyBarn. I bought them although I knew these are usually given free on Wishtrend. Each of these samples lasted me anywhere between 4 to 8 usages, which is a decent amount to decide if I’ll go for the full size products. Because I often tend regret getting full sizes just because I hate one feature of the product, say like the fragrance or the feel of it on my skin. Anyways, this post will give you my first impression of some of the popular and Best Selling Klairs Products. Let’s get started with a little info about the Brand first.
Table of Contents
About the Brand
Klairs is a Korean cosmetics brand that focuses on formulating mild yet effective products, that are ideal for sensitive and irritation prone skin types. But then most of the products contain essential oils, so always check for ingredients that you are allergic to. Most of their products pass the EWG Rating, making them safer to use.
The Brand’s Philosophy
- No harsh ingredients
- No colorants, alcohols, parabens, artificial fragrances.
- No animal testing
- High Quality
That’s a very quick info about the brand. Moving onto to my impressions on Klairs Products:
- Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream
Notable Ingredients: Guaiazulene (calming), Centella Asiatica(anti-inflammatory), Jojoba Seed Oil (Anti bacterial), Ceramide 3 (imparts moisture) , Sodium Hyaluronate (deep hydration) Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E).
Impression: I didn’t believe this cream will be any different. But it was! I had developed irritated itchy jawline and upper cheek after using a Vitamin C product twice day, that too for the first time. I used this cream in the night after cleansing and toning. I did not expect it, but this calmed the irritation and itchiness in less than 15 minutes, faster than my trusted aloe gel. I continued to use the next nights as well and this thing truly is a calming cream. Jotting down some of its features, it is a blue colored cream which is a bit thick, so a tiny of it was enough for the whole face. This can also be used as spot treatments where there is more irritation. It gets absorbed so quickly and hydrates the skin really well without being greasy on the skin. My skin feels soft and supple after applying this cream. I would highly recommend this for sensitive, irritation prone skin. I’m impressed with this product. Bonus – The cream is fragrance free, I mean, it doesn’t smell anything at all to me, despite containing essential oils.
Will I get the full size? Probably Yes. Amazing for itchy & irritated skin.
Klairs Supple Preparation Toner Scented & Unscented
Notable Ingredients: Sodium Hyaluronate (hydration booster), Centella Asiatica Extract (Soothing & Healing), Licorice Root Extract (Brightening), Panthenol (Provitamin B5) and Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E).
The only difference between both is the addition of essential oils in the original scented Supple Preparation Toner.
Impression: I kind of loved using this. I used this as a toner before the blue calming cream when I developed skin irritation. And I do feel it aided in healing my skin. It was my first time using a thicker toner as opposed to water-y toners. Now I know how a hydrating toner feels. This one certainly hydrates my skin. It absorbs easily, does feel sticky or tacky and is well suited to use in the Korean 7 skin layering method. Being a beginner, I applied only one layer though. There is only a slight difference in the scent of the toner. Both are mildly scented, something like a faint plastic kind of synthetic scent (or is it some herb scent?). The scents dissipates into air swiftly, so it’s not a bother at all. Consistency wise, the Unscented one is a tad bit thinner otherwise both of the perform the same, hydrating the skin. I felt like missing something if I didn’t use it some days, considering the weather is also cooler and hence needs hydration. I thoroughly loved using them so I got myself a mini 30 ml version before investing in full size. Let me slowly upgrade it! A full detailed review will be up later on after using it for a longer time. So Keep subscribed.
Will I get the full size? Yes.
Klairs Midday Blue Sun Lotion SPF 40 PA++
Notable Ingredients: Guaiazulene (calming), Centella Asiatica(anti-inflammatory), Niacinamide (Brightening), Sodium Hyaluronate (deep hydration) and Panthenol.
Sunscreen Filters: Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Isoamyl p-Methoxycinnamate, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine
Impression: This is quite different from other sunscreens because it has a pale blue tint to it. Just so you know, all Klairs ‘ Blue ‘ products is formulated with guaizulene, a blue colored redness taming ingredient obtained from chamomile plants. This particular ingredient is said to soothe and calm down skin and is particularly beneficial for sensitive skin. This is a sunscreen with both physical and chemical UV filters. The mid day sun lotion has some sort of essential oil fragrance which vanishes quickly without bothering much. The texture is a mix of mousse and lotion with a semi-thick moderate consistency. It applies like a physical sunscreen, white, fast drying. It can be difficult to blend and sit as white residues on top of skin if used without moisturizer. I highly suggest using this only on damp, well hydrated skin. It has a noticeable blue white cast which looks ashy on my skin. I had to hide my face until the product settles down. In about 15 to 30 minutes, the white cast settles down and skin looks normal. This sunscreen is mattifying and will be a great option for oily skin types. Although this had a white cast, the sunscreen doesn’t feel tacky or uncomfortable on the skin. This had much more comfortable feel than the newly launched Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence. This may be a good sunscreen for oily skin types. Overall it was an ok kind product and is not a repurchase material for me. Anyhow this product is currently discontinued due to product renewal. So let’s hope for even more better formula.
Will I get full size? No
Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil
Notable Ingredients: Jojoba Seed Oil, Soybean Oil, Black Seed Oil, Sesame Seed Oil and Vitamin E.
Of course, some of the oils are pore clogging but it should be fine unless you are severely prone to acne. Because this is a first cleanser and you will anyways need to follow up with a foam cleanser, removing the oils completely out of the skin.
Impression: First of all, I’m not a Cleansing Oil person. In fact, I double cleanse only when I wear makeup. And that too it is with Micellar Waters and not Cleansing Oils. Acne skin problems yeah! Coming to the product, it is a very light, thin oil. It is very gentle and breaks down makeup, sunscreen well. Note that makeup here refers to light BB/CC Cream. This may not remove waterproof makeup considering how mild it is. The Cleansing Oil emulsifies into a white milk sort of texture while rinsing. After rinsing the cleansing oil leaves a mild oily residue, so always use a foam cleanser afterwards. It did not irritate my skin and felt nice and gentle on my skin. Since I am not into Cleansing Oils, I don’t find this product as a must have for me. It may be a good product for you. Just try their samples first.
Will I get the full size? Nope.
Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Cream
Notable Ingredients: Sodium Hyaluronate (Hydration Booster), Centella Asiatica Extract (Soothing & Healing), Ceramide 3 (Anti aging), Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Brightening), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E)
Impression: This is a moisturizer for dehydrated sensitive skin, whereas the Blue Calming cream is more of a treatment product. Although they aren’t comparable, I liked the latter more than the former. But this is good too. Confusing right!! The Rich Moist Soothing Cream has the usual white creamy thick cream texture. It blends easily and feels highly moisturizing on the skin. This can be used both day and night, but I used it only for the nights as its heavy for me for day time use. It takes a couple of minutes for the skin to feel light and comfortable after application. I wake up with a non-greasy soft supple skin when I use this. It didn’t break me out either. This cream is soothing as well, but not as powerful as the modnihhy blue cream. I am telling this after applying this cream after using my Vitamin C Serum which tingles my skin. Overall, this will be a good day cream for dry skin and a night cream for oily skin. It is a nice product but not necessarily a must have product for me.
Will I get the full size? May be, if I have a lot of money to splurge.
Klairs Illuminating Supple Blemish Cream SPF 40 PA++
Notable Ingredients: Sodium Hyaluronate (Deep Hydration), Niacinamide (Brightening & Pore Care), Centella Extract (Soothing and calming), Adenosine (Smoothens & Reduces wrinkles), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E).
Sunscreen Filters: Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Isoamyl p-Methoxycinnamate, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine
Impression: I didn’t know this was a BB Cream until I opened it. I completely forgot that Blemish cream means BB Cream. This is a yellow based light shaded cream. It’s a Korean product so it’s obvious! It comes in only one shade and will suit only very fair skintones. It didn’t match my skin tone, it looked a lot whiter on me. The whiteness settles down a bit after half an hour, but still the shade is not a perfect match for me. The cream is thick hence only a little is enough for even coverage. The BB cream has a little more than light coverage. It hides minor imperfections nicely. The cream dries quickly and can flake if not blended properly. The first time I used fingers, and it didn’t give a good finish. I find using damp sponges works well for this product. Don’t consider this as an SPF product but just as a BB Cream because we apply only a little. We need to apply a lot (1/4 teaspoon) for it to be effective as an SPF. Just as it’s name, the BB Cream gives an illuminating glow with satin dewy finish. It’s not oily rather my skin feels comfortable with this cream. It is lightweight and not heavy like foundations. That’s all with its features. Obviously I’m not getting this due to its single shade. The formula is okay-ish, not something that I fell in love completely.
Will I get the full size? No.
Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum
Notable Ingredients: Sodium Hyaluronate (Hydration Booster), Centella Asiatica Extract (Soothing & Healing), Licorice Root Extract (Brightening), Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Brightening), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E)
Impression: The first thing that got me is its texture. It’s not a thin or watery serum, it has more like a clear gel texture which is neither too thick nor runny. After toner, I applied the serum directly onto my face, without warning up in my palms. It feels cooling and soothing when the serum touches the skin and it gets absorbed or dries down almost immediately. It gives a boost of hydration instantly. I used the Rich Moist Soothing Cream on top of this and it did not pile or anything. It goes on smoothly. I used the serum for like 5 days and I didn’t notice much of a difference in my skin, except for the hydration part. Although I wouldn’t be buying this unless it’s available at great discount, I liked using it for its lightweight and comfortable feel. I guess this product will work when combined with other active products. An expensive light hydrating serum is what this is.
Full size? No, at least not now.
Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin E Mask
Notable Ingredients: Sodium Hyaluronate (Deep Hydration), Niacinamide (Brightening & Pore Care), Centella Extract (Soothing and calming), Adenosine (Smoothens & Reduces wrinkles), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E).
Impression: Ideally this should be used as a sleeping mask as a last step in your skincare routine. But it could also be used a moisturizer as claimed. The mask has a unique bouncy, pudding texture which is similar to the texture of The Face Shop White Seed Blanclouding White Seed Moisture Cream. It has a slightly stronger fragrance than other Klairs Products. It doesn’t stay for long though.
To test it out, I used it in both ways. The mask is nicely hydrating and has a mild chip chip feeling initailly, because it is highly moisturizing. It might be heavy for oily skin but will be a good option for normal and combination skin types. When used as a moisturizer, while rinsing my face the next day, I do not feel like washing off a mask or sense any slippery residue like the Innisfree Green Tea Sleeping Pack. It got absorbed into the skin rather than just sitting on top of it when used directly. But it felt otherwise when used as a sleeping mask. The mask is said to work wonders with their Freshly Juiced Vitamin C Drop. I used it after my Neemli Vitamin C Serum and I did not notice instant results, despite using it for straight 5 days. In fact, some days I woke up with a shiny skin with noticeable pore size. This product kind of failed to impress me.
Full Size? No.
Overall thoughts on Dear Klairs Products
What I love the most? There is a commonality ingredient among all Klairs Products which is Sodium Hyaluronate. I’m so happy to have found this ingredient. It is such a hydration booster that it restores skin’s youthfulness. I guess I’m going to stick to using atleast one product with Hyaluronic Acid in my future skincare routines. My most favourites among the ones above are the Supple Preparation Toner (screams.. suppleness) and the Midnight Blue Calming (superb for irritated skin). The others were okay-ish and above average types. But those two are great.
One more thing I loved about Klairs Products – fortunately none of them broke me out. In fact, most of them helped to heal my acne and prevent new ones from occurring. The products are well suited for acne prone skin. And they also have some good calming and skin soothing products for irritated and itchy skin.
Let downs – The essential oils? Not at all skin types can tolerate essential oils. Fragrance wise, I could barely tell they had essential oils in it. You know some natural Indian brands have overwhelming essential oil fragrance which can be irritating, particularly for me. Not blaming, I’m ok if it’s mild and not too overwhelming.
Another major let down – Price. These are super expensive, atleast for me, that I will think twice before purchasing any product from them.
That is all I have to say about Klairs Products. Do let us know your experience or favourite Klairs Products in the comments section below. Also let me know if you have any brand suggestions that you would like me to cover on the blog. If you have reached upto this point, Thank you so much for reading until the end. Lots of Love <3
